Raoof Hasan, the central information secretary for PTI, was hurt on Tuesday in an incident in Islamabad. The party wrote, “Very shameful and reprehensible!!” on X. The party released video footage of Hasan with anchor Shahid Masood beside him, both of them bleeding from the face. “Free expression, democracy, and the rule of law are all under attack from this disgusting act of violenceā. Peculiar tactics like these won’t stop Raoof Hasan or the PTI from fighting for our cause. The party added that he was attacked near the headquarters of a private television channel. “Attempts to intimidate or silence us will only strengthen our resolve to fight for a just and equitable society,” the statement stated.
Hasan was allegedly attacked with a blade outside the offices of a private TV channel, according to a statement from the Islamabad police spokesperson. According to eyewitnesses, Hasan was stabbed in the face by transgender people, the statement stated. It further stated that the police were on the scene gathering evidence. It stated that the transgender people who had done this would face severe consequences. Hassan Jahangir Wattoo, a senior superintendent of police, stated that the incident’s video was being examined and that more information would be provided to the media when appropriate. The police narrative appeared to be supported by CCTV footage that the PTI released, which showed Hasan being attacked by four people who looked to be transgender.
The group questioned who the attackers’ “ringleader” was. “The entire nation knows who is orchestrating these attacks on our leadership,” said a message that was put on PTI founder Imran Khan’s social media team X account. These are the same powers that prowl in the shadows, intimidate and threaten judges through proxies, and degrade elections by blatantly manipulating the outcome. “Let us be very clear: PTI will not be deterred by such violent and dirty tactics, which only serve to bring the offenders’ names to the attention of the country.” Omar Ayub, the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was responsible for the attack, calling it “proof that he is being silenced for speaking the truth.” He demanded that the head of the Islamabad police department either arrest the offenders right away or step down from office.
The incident was brought up by Senate Leader of the Opposition Shibli Faraz during today’s session. He stated that he wanted Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar to respond to the Senate immediately because “this incident that happened is very serious that the state of affairs has reached this extent that the spokesperson of Pakistan’s biggest party is physically attacked.” This can’t happen. He asked the law minister to weigh in on the issue and issue the necessary directives. Sen. Barrister Ali Zafar of the PTI claimed that the party was organizing a walkout.
