Introduction:
Tank District comprises Paniala Tehsil, Kulachi Tehsil, and a portion of Dera Ismail Khan Tehsil. The term “Tank” is derived from the native word ‘Takk,’ signifying the ultimate frontier. Historically, Tank, once an independent state, marked the border of mainland India with the mountains, earning it the name Takk or Tank. For countless years, until the creation of Pakistan, Tank was governed by the Kattikhel family, which had established peaceful relations with the British and was granted limited autonomy to rule the state of Takk. The modern era of Tank began with its elevation from a tehsil to a district within the Dera Ismail Khan Division on July 1, 1992.
It is a constituency of Pakistan national assembly.
In 2023, the constituency, NA-42 (Tank), was established through the amalgamation of Tank District with specific portions of Dera Ismail Khan District.
