Introduction:
NA-61 Rawalpindi V is a National Assembly constituency in Pakistan that underwent a name change from NA-54 to NA-61 Rawalpindi-V. The delimitation process included the entirety of Rawalpindi Cantonment and three census charges from Chaklala Cantonment. In the previous delimitation, a substantial portion of Chaklala was encompassed within this constituency. With the recent changes, certain areas of Chaklala have now been relocated to the new NA-60 (formerly designated as NA-56). Originally, Rawalpindi Cantonment stood as the sole and the largest cantonment in Pakistan within the city of Rawalpindi. However, its extensive size, area, and population posed significant administrative challenges, leading to suboptimal management. Consequently, during General Pervez Musharraf’s tenure, Rawalpindi Cantonment underwent a division, resulting in the creation of Rawalpindi Cantonment and Chaklala Cantonment. The northern and eastern sectors around the airport were designated as part of Chaklala Cantonment, while the western and southern regions of Rawalpindi Cantonment retained their original status.
