MIANWALI: In Mianwali, Punjab, on Monday, around a dozen terrorists attacked a checkpost, injuring two police officers. The police spokeswoman stated that between 12 and 14 Khawarij attacked the Qabool Khel police checkpoint using hand grenades and rockets. That being said, the official added that two police officers were hurt when Punjab Police stopped the terrorists’ onslaught, allowing them to flee.
With a large team, Deputy Superintendent of Police Isa Khel, the district police officer for Mianwali, arrived at the checkpoint after the event. Following a rocket attack on their trucks by bandits in a riverine area of Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab, last month, at least twelve police officers were killed and six others were injured.
One of Rahim Yar Khan’s riverine localities, the Machka neighborhood, is where the horrifying incident took place. Two police vans carrying over twenty officers were caught in rain in the area when robbers fired rockets at them, police authorities informed the media. Twelve police officers lost their lives in the violent attack, seven were injured, and five were reported missing, according to the authorities.
Since the Taliban government retook control in neighboring Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has seen a spike in militant attacks, primarily in the border provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the northwest and Balochistan in the southwest, which borders both Afghanistan and Iran.
The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies reports that there were at least 170 militant strikes in Balochistan last year that resulted in the deaths of 151 civilians and 114 security officers. Islamabad charges the recently appointed government in Kabul with neglecting to expel militants who are taking refuge in Afghanistan to plot attacks against Pakistan.
In light of this, the federal cabinet authorized Operation Azm-e-Istehkam in June of this year, reviving the nation’s counterterrorism campaign by the Central Apex Committee’s recommendations made possible by the National Action Plan to eradicate terrorism.
