Authorities in Washuk, Balochistan, say that a bus slid down a ravine on Wednesday, resulting in at least 28 deaths and at least 22 injuries. Assistant Commissioner (AC) Ismail Mengal of Basima told Dawn.com that the bus crashed onto a hill and subsequently plunged into a ravine due to a ruptured tire. According to AC Mengal, there were also three women and three children among the deceased. He mentioned that the accident happened at about five in the morning while the bus—which was carrying 45 to 50 passengers—was traveling from Turbat to Quetta at night. Authorities worry that a spike in fatalities could result from the fact that some of the injured are in severe condition.
22 more persons passed away from their wounds at the Basima Civil Hospital after the bodies and injured were brought there. Nine of the 28 injured have been moved to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Khuzdar because they are in serious condition. Four more individuals in serious condition have been asked to be airlifted to Quetta by helicopter by the Pakistan Army so they can be admitted to the trauma center. Hospitals in Washik are providing medical care to the remaining 17. Information was not received by Levies officials until after the incident because there was no mobile network at the scene and no people in the area. Rescue personnel, according to AC Mengal, were at the scene as soon as they had received the information.
The majority of the dead have not yet been given names, according to the AC. The deceased’s bodies have been taken to the hospital, and Gwadar officials are being contacted to get their identities. Mir Sarfraz Bugti, the chief minister of Balochistan, expressed his sincere remorse and sadness for the deaths of people. Additionally, he sent his sympathies to the families of the accident victims. The CM prayed for the injured people’s quick recovery and ordered the greatest medical care to be given to them.
Dr. Adul Malik Baloch, the president of the National Party, expressed sadness for the occurrence and called it an unfortunate and painful experience. Similar to CM Bugti, he demanded that the wounded receive the greatest medical care available, emphasizing that any kind of carelessness would result in additional harm. “Tens of thousands of precious lives have been lost due to speeding buses and isolated roads,” stated Baloch. He said the government should adjust the budget appropriately and that two-way road construction is an important need in Balochistan.
