Five Japanese nationals were not harmed, according to police on Friday, when a suicide bomber in Karachi’s Landhi neighborhood targeted their vehicle. Additionally, according to police, two terrorists who were part of the attack were slain. The five foreign countries were traveling in a Hiace van when the event happened, according to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East Azfar Mahesar, who spoke with Dawn.com about it. The incident happened close to Murtaza Chowrangi in Landhi. “Everyone, the five Japanese, was safe. One terrorist was slain, he added, but the private security man who was accompanying them was hurt.
He stated, “The Japanese nationals were traveling from their home in Zamzama, Clifton, to the Export Processing Zone.” According to Dawn.com, a suicide bomber riding a motorbike struck two security guards and the Japanese nationals inside a van when they were being driven by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) DIG Asif Aijaz Shaikh. DIG Shaikh declared, “All five of the Japanese nationals are safe.” He added that a Sharafi Goth police party on patrol in the neighborhood shot and killed another “suicide bomber” who was there as “backup.”
The DIG stated that “no one has claimed responsibility so far” and that the automobile transporting the Japanese citizens was bulletproof. The head of CTD, Raja Umar Khattab, informed reporters that three cars were traveling in a convoy, carrying Japanese nationals. The suicide bomber was already in the vicinity with his accomplice. The suicide bomber struck when they noticed the automobiles, he claimed. The officer went on to say that after the suicide attack failed to accomplish its goal, the attacker’s accomplice “panicked” and opened fire.
He added that the second terrorist was shot and killed by officials. “I counted about fifteen rounds fired by the terrorist.” He also had several grenades in addition to that, he stated. Reiterating that the foreign nationals were unharmed, he added that the incident had been stopped by police and security personnel acting promptly. He claimed that before launching the attack, the culprits had conducted reconnaissance. According to a statement on X, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vehemently denounced the incident and begged for the injured parties’ recovery. He declared, “The police’s prompt action prevented us from suffering any serious fatalities.” “Until terrorism is eradicated, we won’t stop.” The prime minister declared, “Every evil attempt to undermine the state of law and order will be stopped.”
The police were praised by President Asif Ali Zardari for their prompt action against the terrorists. In a statement aired by Radio Pakistan, he commended the police for preventing significant casualties through their quick intervention. He reaffirmed the unwavering resolve to eliminate terrorists as a group. The tragedy that occurred today occurred less than a month before in Bisham, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a suicide bombing claimed the lives of five Chinese nationals and one Pakistani. Police said that the bus was attacked on the Karakoram Highway while it was traveling from Islamabad to Kohistan.
