RAWALPINDI: The attack on the truck that killed five Chinese engineers in Bisham on March 26 was orchestrated in Afghanistan, according to Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Major General Ahmed Sharif on Tuesday. The Director General of Information and Security (DG ISPR) spoke extensively during a press conference on the terrorist acts that have been carried out from Afghanistan into Pakistan and the resulting tensions with the country’s western neighbor. Major General Sharif stated, “On March 26 in Bisham, a tragic incident occurred when a suicide bomber targeted a car of the Chinese engineers working on the Dasu Dam, resulting in the deaths of five Chinese citizens and one Pakistani.”
He said that while the planning for this suicide bombing was done in Afghanistan, it was also connected to that country. The suicide bomber was an Afghan native, and both the terrorists and their organizers were under Afghani authority. He declared that the Pakistan Army was “taking all necessary actions to bring its facilitators to justice” and that it vehemently opposed “this ugly game of terrorism.” According to the DG ISPR, a great deal of Pakistani soldiers, employees, and law enforcement officers have died fighting terrorism.
It is well known that Pakistan made every effort to promote peace throughout the region, particularly in Afghanistan. The most significant contribution to regional peace has come from Pakistan. He emphasized, “The world has also acknowledged that Pakistan has been sheltering Afghan refugees for a long time and has assisted the Afghan refugees more than any other country. Major General Sharif stated that “the TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) terrorists are continuously committing acts of terrorism in Pakistan” despite all of Pakistan’s efforts and despite bringing this to the attention of the Afghan interim administration at the state level.
He claimed that although Pakistan had produced hard proof, the Afghan government had not yet noticed it. There was proof that the most recent acts of terrorism in Pakistan were connected to terrorist strongholds in Afghanistan. Reiterating that Pakistan has always supported Afghanistan, he also reminded the Kabul interim administration that one of its commitments to Pakistan was to prevent any acts of terror against Pakistan from taking place on Afghan territory. According to the DG ISPR, there is solid proof that terrorists from the TTP are still launching assaults into Pakistan from Afghan territory. He noted that the Foreign Office has received 12 protests in that regard.
He said that Pakistan had expressed reservations over the hideouts of banned groups in Afghanistan, as stated by the Army Chief in a clear statement. The head of the ISRP declared, “Pakistan will stop at nothing to destroy terror networks and safeguard its people.” He stated that as it was their goal to bring about peace in the nation, the Pakistani Armed Forces would stop at nothing to suppress terrorists and those who support and enable them. The terrorists and those who support them, according to the DG ISPR, are actively working to worsen the state of law and order in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “The security forces bravely repelled an attempt by militants from the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) on the Mach Frontier Corps base in January 2024. 24 terrorists were slain in this attack, and four soldiers—two of them police officers—embraced martyrdom,” he said.
He claimed that on March 16, six terrorists were killed and seven soldiers, including Lieutenant Colonel Kashif and Captain Ahmed, accepted death during an attack on a North Waziristan checkpoint. He said that Pakistan responded by conducting counterattacks along Afghanistan’s borders and focusing on terrorists’ safe havens, which resulted in the deaths of eight militants who were engaged in numerous terror attacks in the country. He said that on March 25, four terrorists were killed and another soldier was slain in a terror strike in Turbat.
According to the DG ISPR, a terrorist known as Habibullah son of Khan Mohammad confessed to carrying out terror attacks in Pakistan after being apprehended on April 23 during an intelligence-based operation in the Pishin district of Balochistan. He stated that as of now in 2024, the security forces have carried out 13,135 minor and major intelligence-based operations against terrorists and those who assist them, resulting in the deaths of 249 terrorists and the arrest of 396 others. To combat terrorists, the Pakistan Army, police, intelligence services, and other law enforcement organizations conduct more than 100 operations every day.
He added that two officers and sixty men of the Pakistani forces had accepted martyrdom during the operations in the current year. Speaking about the effort to bring back illegal Afghans to their nation was the DG ISPR. “The Government of Pakistan decided to send back foreign citizens who were residing in Pakistan illegally in the larger national interest,” he continued. The nation’s economy was already under strain, and things were getting worse in terms of law and order. No nation on earth permits undocumented immigrants to go about freely. Although hundreds of thousands of illegal Afghan residents are still residing in Pakistan, 563,639 of them have already returned to their homeland.
Regarding India, he stated that efforts were on to deflect attention from the nation’s ongoing internal violence and that the country’s top military and civil leadership was fully aware of the various risks posed by the neighbor on the eastern border. “India has violated the ceasefire on several occasions this year on a minor scale, including 120 instances of speculative fire, 15 airspace violations, and 59 technical air violations,” he claimed. Innocent civilians in Azad Jammu and Kashmir are being targeted by the Indian army along the Line of Control (LoC), but the Pakistani army has responded appropriately and will continue to do so. At all times and at whatever cost, we are prepared to defend our sovereignty.
He claimed that in Indian-held Kashmir, innocent civilians were also being targeted by the Indian army. DG ISPR Sharif declared, “The Pakistan Army has responded to the Indian aggression on the LoC appropriately and will continue to do so.” He reiterated that Pakistan was always prepared to protect its sovereignty. According to Major General Sharif, the Indian army is attacking innocent civilians in Kashmir, and the world is aware of this. It has attempted to use oppression to stifle the democratic voice of the Kashmiris. He claimed that India was “openly violating” UN resolutions when the Indian Supreme Court issued its “pre-written” ruling upholding Article 370 last year. According to the DG ISPR, the Indian government was complicit in international crimes, including the deliberate slaughter of Sikhs of Indian descent.
He said that there was solid proof of contact between Indian agents and the murders committed on Pakistani territory. “The Indian agencies have also killed Pakistani citizens Shahid Latif and Muhammad Riaz on the directives of the Indian government,” he stated. In that regard, he said, the Foreign Office had also held a press briefing. According to Major General Sharif, among other Muslim nations, Pakistan has become an influential voice for Gazans on the international front. He also said that the Army Chief had promised to keep talking about the situation and had demanded an immediate ceasefire in a meeting with the Palestinian ambassador.
He claimed that the Pakistani people fully supported the Palestinian people politically, morally, and diplomatically, according to the Army Chief’s declaration. He declared, “We will keep advocating for workable solutions to the Palestinian issue and their land.”
