The suicide attack in Bisham on Tuesday that killed six people, including five Chinese nationals, was unquestionably “orchestrated by the enemies of Pak-China friendship,” the Foreign Office (FO) stated on Thursday. Tuesday’s suicide bombing claimed the lives of the five Chinese engineers and their Pakistani driver as they were traveling from Islamabad to Dasu, the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, where a hydroelectric dam was being built. The Shangla district of Bisham City, KP, is where the bus was attacked.
In the aftermath of the destructive explosion, China requested that measures be taken to ensure the safety of its people and a thorough inquiry be conducted to determine the cause of the incident. Islamabad retaliated by announcing a prompt investigation to bring the “perpetrators and accomplices” to justice. The bus was being attacked on the Karakoram Highway while it was traveling from Islamabad to Kohistan, according to the police. Bisham Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Juma Rehman told Dawn, “It was a suicide attack on the Chinese convoy and an explosive-laden vehicle approaching from Kohistan hit the bus.” The bus caught fire after the attack, according to SDPO Rehman, and fell into the ravine.
He reported that the attack involved a large quantity of explosives, which caused the bus to be thrown into the ravine by the force of the blast. The police roped off the area, according to the officer, to gather evidence. Additionally, according to SDPO Rehman, “we have collected body parts of the suspected suicide bomber from the site.” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and members of his cabinet paid a visit to the Chinese embassy shortly after the bombing, assuring Beijing that its citizens would be secure and promising a thorough investigation into the suicide bombing.
On Wednesday, the government restated its dedication to fighting terrorism with full force and using all available resources to catch the culprits as soon as possible. The government also announced the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the attack, in response to the Chinese government’s request for immediate action and accountability for the incident. At today’s weekly press briefing, FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that Pakistan was in communication with the Chinese government concerning the “heinous attack.”
Concerning “bringing terrorists, and their facilitators and abettors to justice,” she declared that Pakistan was “fully committed.” These heinous acts bolster Pakistan’s determination to oppose terrorism in all of its shapes and forms,” the FO spokesperson stated. China and Pakistan are strategic allies and fierce rivals. She said, “We are confident that the enemies of the friendship between Pakistan and China planned the terror attack in Bisham.”We will unite to take on and ultimately defeat these kinds of actions and forces,” declared Baloch. She vowed that Pakistan would keep collaborating with its Chinese neighbors to protect Chinese nationals, projects, and institutions in Pakistan.
