KARACHI: Business tycoon Arif Habib has pushed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to strengthen ties with neighboring nations, particularly India, and make a gesture of peace to his political rival who is imprisoned, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Habib’s advice was delivered on Wednesday at Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s speech to the business community at an event. The premier expressed confidence that, with the help of the business community, Pakistan’s exports will increase over the next five years.
During the Q&A session, Habib counseled the premier, “Having engaged with the Pakistan Peoples Party and other parties, I urge you to engage two more times: once with our neighbors, including India, and once with the inmates of Adiala Jail.” During his last term as prime minister, PM Shehbaz secured a bailout package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the stock market was elevated to record heights, which the billionaire praised. PM Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed in his speech his belief in Pakistan’s export potential and emphasized the importance of working with the business community to accomplish this.
He presented ideas for an all-encompassing framework of policies that would increase exports and address issues with foreign exchange reserves. The framework would be created in collaboration with business leaders. “To tackle economic challenges and foster progress and prosperity, the Prime Minister has urged the business community to collaborate, recognizing it as the backbone of the economy. The government is committed to transforming key sectors such as mining, agriculture, information technology, and industry, with a focus on reducing unemployment, poverty, and inflation.”
The Prime Minister recently discussed the government’s efforts to export surplus sugar and put an end to smuggling. During the discussion, the Prime Minister highlighted macroeconomic statistics that have improved under the interim and current administrations, such as the current account surplus, rising remittances, falling inflation, and the stock exchange’s historic gains. Moreover, Shehbaz pledged that the privatization process would be carried out transparently and without bureaucratic obstacles, and the government would consult with the business community before finalizing any transaction. To revive the economy of Pakistan, he emphasized the importance of teamwork and creative problem-solving to overcome any obstacles.
He asserted that the private sector should manage enterprises and contribute appropriately to the growth and prosperity of the nation; the government should not be in charge of doing so. The prime minister emphasized that his administration immediately upon assuming office gave refunds totaling Rs65 billion. He urged the business community to implement cutting-edge methods, cutting-edge technology, and superior marketing in their enterprises. Shehbaz stated that the government was attempting to obtain the case results as quickly as possible, stating that a sum of Rs 2.7 trillion in tax revenue remained stalled in the legal system.
