ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the trading Framework Agreement between Pakistan and Mercosur a South American trading group that includes Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay was approved ex post facto by the federal cabinet. The prime minister, who presided over the federal cabinet meeting, noted that Pakistani items that haven’t been fully explored yet may benefit from the South American market.
He gave the relevant authorities orders to move quickly to finalize the long-pending agreements and memorandums of understanding about the economy. The prime minister expressed his happiness that the inflation rate dropped to a single digit in August of this year and thanked the governor of the State Bank, the finance ministry, and other related ministries for their work in this area.
The prime minister stated that increasing employment possibilities was one of the government’s top priorities and called for further measures to bring about economic stability. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for bilateral political consultation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Albania and Pakistan was approved by the federal cabinet.
The cabinet additionally approved the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the Secretariat, its Personnel, and Representatives of Members of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) 2010 based on the foreign ministry’s recommendation.
The group decided to extend Syed Junaid Ikhlaq’s term as Chairman of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) until a regular officer is appointed, Ikhlaq being Senior Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training.
After consulting with all relevant parties, a committee appointed by the federal cabinet to review the drafts of the Religious Tolerance and Interfaith Harmony Policy will deliver its findings in less than a month. The decisions made by the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases during its meeting on August 26, 2024, were also approved at this meeting. The late Rana Afzaal Hussain, a member of the National Assembly and the brother of Federal Industries and Production Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, was also offered Fateha by the cabinet members.
