HYDERABAD: The cylinder blast in Paretabad has claimed the lives of seven people, including a young child, and Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Shoro has vowed to take action against illegal LNG enterprises operating in the city, according to an ARY News report on Friday. A huge explosion at a business in Hyderabad’s Paretabad neighborhood that refilled Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders caused numerous injuries the day before, including wounds to women and children. Many in the neighborhood fled their homes in terror as they tried to determine what had caused the explosion after hearing the noise, which could be heard for miles around. The flames also destroyed a car.
After receiving emergency care at the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH), many of the victims—many of whom had a high proportion of burns—had to be transferred to Karachi. There are now seven victims dead in the Burns Ward at Civil Hospital after the death of one more victim today. Naeem, Hussain, Bilal, Ali Raza, Abdul Rahim, Ayan Ali, and Faheem were among the five youngsters among the seven killed, according to rescue personnel. Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Shoro, who spoke exclusively to ARY News, expressed his sincere condolences for the cylinder explosion and stated that the district government is taking action against such illicit companies. “Several shops were sealed as a result of an earlier today crackdown on illegal cylinder shops,” he said.
When asked about the fire’s rapid response, Shoro replied that the fire brigade came to the spot in 17 minutes and put out the fire. The prolonged operation and the firemen’s tardy arrival seemed to enrage the locals who were staying in the neighborhood. Patients in serious condition have been transferred to Karachi for additional treatment, the mayor said in the interim. “A few injured were sent to Karachi voluntarily,” Shoro continued.
