The results of the general elections in 2024 are eagerly awaited by Pakistanis, as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has not released the results by the stipulated 30-minute limit.
Due to the ECP’s lack of a definitive explanation for the hold-up, the delay has drawn speculative criticism from a variety of sources. There have been reports that the Electronic Result Management System (ERMS), which was meant to relay the results from the polling places to the ECP headquarters, has malfunctioned.
In addition to assuring the public and media that it is striving to find a quick solution, the ECP has asked everyone to exercise patience and composure. To avoid confusion and controversy, the ECP has also cautioned media outlets not to publish any unauthorized or unverified results. If returning officers don’t follow the code of conduct and the deadline, the ECP has threatened to suspend them.
