ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the Supreme Court received a review petition from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) challenging the ruling on the reserved seats. The petition requests that the top court reconsider its July 12 ruling, asserting that the Commission has not misconstrued any legal or judicial ruling.
According to the review petition, the ECP has carried out its duties in compliance with the law and the Constitution and has not misconstrued any court or legal rulings. It further stated that the ruling of the Supreme Court has been carried out in text and spirit. The ECP stated that the court is not allowed to meddle in matters covered by Article 218 of the Constitution, but that it is a constitutional right to request a review of a court judgment.
It stated that the case ought to be returned to the constitutional body due to a misreading of the document. According to the statement, 39 PTI members have had the decision enforced. It should be noted that the Supreme Court decided to grant the PTI the reserved seats in its ruling on the challenge brought up by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
