ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has issued a notification for the increase in electricity prices in the context of monthly fuel adjustment. The hike in prices will put an additional burden of Rs66 billion on power consumers. According to the notification, the increase in electricity prices will be applied to the current month’s bills. The increase will not be applied to electricity consumers including Lifeline and K-Electric. The increase in electricity prices will be applied only for one month.
Sources claim that pricy power was produced in January using furnace oil at Rs. 35.43 per unit and diesel at Rs. 45.60 per unit. It should be mentioned that the fuel cost adjustment from January is what caused the most recent increase in energy costs.
