ISLAMABAD: As instructed by the jail manual, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder’s defense attorney may have a private meeting with the inmate, according to a directive sent by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday. During the PTI founder’s request for privacy during the meeting with the lawyers, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan heard the plea. In her defense, defense attorney Shere Afzal Marwat stated in court that the jail administration forbade the PTI founder from speaking with anyone on his or her own and that two people were present during the conversation.
The PTI founder was not allowed to be met by recently elected PTI members or political helpers, he continued, citing jail administration policies. To allow the PTI founder to see his political associates and to give the lawyers private space during their meeting, the Defense Counsel sought the court to grant orders to the jail administration. Later, by the jail handbook, the court ordered the jail administration to permit the attorneys to meet the PTI founder in private.
