ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court’s (SC) guidance has been accepted by PTI founder Imran Khan, who is prepared to hold “conditional” negotiations with all political parties, including the PML-N and PPP, according to an ARY News article published on Monday. In this context, the imprisoned former premier will write the Supreme Court to request advice on the subject. A draft of the letter, which will address the nation’s current political and economic circumstances as well as the issues it faces, has been directed to the party leadership. In addition, the letter would call for fair trials for PTI employees and leaders who are detained or charged with crimes related to the May 9 incident, among other things. To finalize the letter draft, the party’s legal committee will convene today.
According to insiders who spoke with ARY News, PTI is open to having substantive and serious conversations with “authorized representatives” of political parties. While Imran Khan was testifying in court about accountability laws, the Supreme Court of Pakistan counseled the founder of the PTI to start a conversation with lawmakers. The PTI founder spoke to the court during the hearing of the government’s intra-court appeal against the Supreme Court ruling in the case involving the modifications to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) via a video link from the Adiala Central Jail. Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa led the larger bench during Imran Khan’s roughly 35-minute speech before the court. Judges Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Athar Minallah, Jamal Khan Mandokhel, and Aminuddin Khan also sat on the bench.
The former prime minister claimed in his speech that he had no authority over the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during his time at PTI. He emphasized that a designated “third umpire” steps in to make the nomination in cases where the government and the opposition cannot agree on who should be appointed as the NAB chairman. Imran’s statement, according to Justice Mandokhel, is frightening him. If things were that unstable, he advised the PTI founder to “sit down with your fellow politicians and resolve the issues.” Take charge of your team. Justice Mandokhel addressed the PTI founder, saying, “You’re looking up to us and we’re looking up to you.” The judge went on to say that politicians, not judges, would be in charge if, heaven forbid, something happened to the nation.
