Imran Khan, the founder of the PTI, supported the Corps Commanders’ demand to prosecute individuals accountable for the May 9 riots in a statement that was made public on Wednesday. The former prime minister demanded again at the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi that a judicial panel look into the May 9 events. “I endorse the CCC’s declaration,” he stated. He believes that individuals accountable for the events of May 9 ought to face harsh penalties.
According to him, CCTV video had to be utilized to identify the May 9 rioters. “We don’t oppose the military or desire a conflict with them,” he continued. The announcement was made one day after the highest-ranking officials of the Pakistan Army promised to take legal action against those who attacked military installations on May 9 and for designing, instigating, encouraging, and defacing Shuhada monuments. The legal action would be taken by applicable laws and the Constitution.
“In this regard, malicious efforts to create distortions, confusion, and disinformation are absolutely futile and only part of an organized campaign being launched for narrow political interests, to blur the abhorrent activities that took place,” stated the top military officer. About the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) reserved seat ruling, Khan declared that the ECP had abandoned democracy by refusing the PTI its reserved seats. Furthermore, on February 8, the former prime minister accused the ECP of manipulating the general elections.
