According to the deputy commissioner, a landmine exploded and rockets were shot at a voting station on Wednesday, making it impossible to conduct reelection in the PB-9 seat in the Kohlu district of Balochistan. The event occurred shortly after a rocket strike late on Tuesday evening at the PPP candidate’s election office claimed the life of one person. According to officials, two rockets that were fired from an unidentified location touched down and burst close to Mir Nasibullah Marri’s election office. Splinters struck the victim, causing his death.
From Kohlu’s PB-9 seat, Marri ran for the Balochistan Assembly and won the MPA position. On the other hand, the losing candidate contested the results, and seven polling places had to have new elections by the Election Commission. Of the six rockets launched at the polling place this morning, three rocket shells fell inside the premises and exploded, according to Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Returning Officer Naqibullah Kakar, who spoke with Dawn.com. In a different incident, a landmine exploded on the road close to the voting area. According to DC Kakar, the car was bulletproof, so although the explosion rattled it, no one was killed. Two passengers were only “slightly injured.”
After the explosion, the Frontier Corps bomb disposal team and levies soldiers arrived at the location, he continued. There, they discovered and defused a second landmine. He stated that road clearance work was underway and that poll workers were making their way to the polling places while being guarded by security personnel. Today’s polling was supposed to start at 8 a.m. However, employees took longer than expected to go to polling areas because of landmines positioned at various locations, according to DC Kakar. Polling had not started until noon, he continued. The DC stated that keeping the peace was the priority because of the tension in the area. He went on to say that the province government was previously aware of the unstable security conditions.
