The military wing of the media announced on Monday that security forces had killed four terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to a news release from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the action happened last night in response to reports of terrorist activity nearby. Four terrorists were condemned to hell as a result of “own troops effectively engaging the terrorists’ location,” according to the ISPR. It also stated, “These terrorists continued to actively participate in several terrorist activities in the area.” It stated that the terrorists’ possession of guns and ammo had also been found.
“The security forces’ operation was well-received by the local community, and they are committed to eradicating the terrorist threat from the nation,” the statement read. Two suspected militants were slain in the Dera Ismail Khan district on Sunday during a gunfight with security personnel. Two militants, Nawaz alias Gandapuri and Mohsin Nawaz were killed in a fierce gunfight between security personnel and militants, according to the ISPR. Following the proscribed militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s termination of their ceasefire with the government in November 2022, there has been a surge in terror operations in Pakistan during the previous year, particularly in KP and Balochistan.
In 2023, Pakistan had a record six-year high of 1,524 violence-related deaths and 1,463 injuries from 789 terror incidents and counter-terror operations, according to an annual security assessment published by the Centre for Research and Security Studies. With nearly 90% of all deaths and 84% of attacks, including acts of terrorism and security force operations, KP and Balochistan were the main hotspots for violence.
