ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-i-Islami’s emir, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, announced on Sunday that a protest march would take place in Lahore on May 16 to show support for farmers who are now staging demonstrations against the government for failing to import a new crop of wheat into the nation during a press conference, the chairman of Jamaat-e-Islami issued a warning to the government of Punjab. He stated that if they block the route of the Jamaat rally, they will be held responsible for any negative incident that occurs on Mall Road in Lahore. The JI emir declared, “We are going to hold a peaceful rally in Lahore on May 16 along with farmers, and if the government tries to block our way, the responsibility for any untoward situation will lie with the provincial government.” He also pointed out that if the federal government was serious about solving the farmers’ problem, it should act immediately to put an end to further protests.
The government had initially assured the growers that their product would be purchased, he claimed, but it later withdrew that assurance. Despite anticipations of a record crop in the nation, Mr. Rehman also denounced the previous caretaker government’s choice to import wheat. The chairman of JI has urged the residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to refrain from violent protests over the issues of wheat flour and electricity. He emphasized that neither the local government nor the people should give India any opportunity to exploit the situation.
In response to Anwaarul Haq Kakar’s recent declaration about the disclosure of information regarding Form 47 (the outcome of the most recent general elections), the leader of the JI demanded that Mr. Kakar be placed under protective custody and that questions be directed towards him over his remarks. The entire PML-N administration is predicated on Form 47’s change, thus the caretaker prime minister’s life must be in jeopardy after making these comments in response to PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi, he continued. A pro-Palestinian march organized by Jamaat-e-Islami was prevented by Islamabad police on Friday from proceeding to the US Embassy. The protesters aimed to hold a sit-in to voice their opposition to Israel’s actions against Palestinians in Gaza.
