RAWALPINDI: General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), declared on Friday that the Pakistan Army would unwaveringly assist the government in addressing the security issues confronting the nation. The confirmation transpired amid a visit to the military’s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi by Prime Minister Shehbaz Shehbaz and other members of the federal cabinet.
“COAS expressed gratitude to the prime minister for his visit and declaration of faith in the armed forces. According to a statement posted by the PML-N on social media platform X, “COAS affirmed that Pakistan Army will continue to measure up to the nation’s expectations and will resolutely support the government in addressing the security challenges facing Pakistan.”
PM Shehbaz also assured that the government would provide all resources required to ensure the military’s operational readiness. “He said that Pakistan is destined to rise and the role of the armed forces in ensuring the peaceful rise of Pakistan cannot be overemphasized,” the statement said. The premier and his cabinet members appreciated the “professionalism, operational readiness, and sacrifices of Pakistan Army in the war against terrorism and commended the dedication of the Pakistan Army in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and ensuring peace and stability”.
The military leadership was consulted over issues about military readiness, stability in the region, and national security. The present security landscape, danger landscape, tactics for addressing security threats, and ongoing counterterrorism activities were also briefed to the premier and his team. The military and civilian leadership reiterated their commitment to defending national interests and cooperating for a secure and prosperous Pakistan as the visit came to an end.
