At Karachi Port, the largest container ship in Pakistani history has made landfall. With its arrival at the South Asia Pakistan Terminal (SAPT) on Wednesday, the massive ship MSC ANNA left a lasting impression on the nation’s shipping and logistics industry. The MSC ANNA, which can accommodate 19,368 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), is an amazing 400 meters long, according to Express News. This beat the previous record, which was set on May 19, 2020, by the Hong Kong Express, a vessel with a length of 366.50 meters and a capacity of 14,000 TEUs. High-ranking government officials and port officials will be present at a special ceremony on Thursday at Karachi Port to welcome the ship.
Rear Admiral Rizwan Ahmed, General Manager of KPT Operations, was in charge of the MSC ANNA when it was berthed at the exclusive SAPT facility, according to a KPT representative. 19,000 containers were hauled in by the ship, and as soon as the required procedures are finished, the offloading operation will start. Cs Managing the biggest container ship in Pakistani history makes Kim, Head of the Business Unit at Hutchison Ports Pakistan, proud. He underlined that this development is indicative of Hutchison Ports Pakistan’s dedication to developing the nation’s marine sector. Kim emphasized their track record of overseeing big ships, pointing out that they successfully oversaw the 400-meter MSC ANNA and had previously managed a 366-meter ship carrying 14,000 TEUs.
“This accomplishment shows that we can manage big container ships with ease, and we’ll keep showcasing our skills in the future,” Kim said. It is anticipated that the advent of such massive vessels will improve port operations, lower shipping costs, and increase government revenue. Large ship traffic at Karachi Port is increasing, which emphasizes Pakistan’s growing significance in international trade and the terminal’s critical role in the nation’s economic growth.
