The districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to see increased rain, wind, and thunderstorms starting today, along with sporadic heavy downpours, according to the National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC).
The NDMA issued a warning in a statement that parts of Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, and Swabi could experience flash floods as a result of the heavy rainfall. The people and all pertinent agencies have been advised by the authorities to take the appropriate safety measures to reduce the likelihood of landslides and floods.
The NDMA has instructed all relevant departments to mobilize resources and put Emergency Response Teams on high alert in order to respond quickly to any emergencies. It is advised that visitors stay away from these locations during the predicted period. It is recommended that people keep alert, heed local authorities’ directions, and stay updated by downloading the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” smartphone app.
The Tarbela Dam, meanwhile, reached its maximum water conservation level of 1550 feet on Monday, according to the Indus River System Authority (IRSA). With an inflow of 417,000 cusecs, IRSA reports that 380,400 cusecs of water were released from several rim stations.
At the Tarbela Dam, the water level registered an inflow of 256,400 cusecs and an outflow of 235,600 cusecs. River Jhelum at Mangla Dam had a water level of 1213.80 feet, 165.80 feet above its dead level of 1,050 feet, with an input of 25,800 cusecs and an outflow of 10,000 cusecs.
At Kalabagh, Taunsa, Guddu, and Sukkur, the reported water outputs were 289,800, 380,200, 381,000, and 371,000 cusecs, in that order. Furthermore, at Nowshera, 66,400 cusecs of water were discharged from the River Kabul, and at Marala, 45,400 cusecs from the River Chenab.
