ISLAMABAD: On Sunday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to halting power theft, cutting down on line losses, and enhancing the nation’s power distribution network. He said that five electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) recently had new board chairs and members selected by the government in an open procedure. He believed that the performance of DISCOs will be further enhanced by these appointments.
The prime minister presided over a meeting to assess the issues related to the Power Ministry and gave the Power Minister and Secretary of Power Division instructions to work with the provinces to stop energy theft, improve DISCO performance, and address other sector-related issues.
He gave the provincial administration instructions to continue maintaining the Tehsildar and police forces under the requirements of the DISCOs. Furthermore, he gave the relevant authorities orders to take harsh measures and deal ruthlessly with the unscrupulous individuals within the electricity distribution firms.
Regarding public complaints, he gave DISCOs instructions on how to improve the kutchehri system’s efficacy and focus on outcomes. According to Prime Minister Shehbaz, the steering group established to convert Balochistan’s agricultural tube wells to solar power ought to meet right away.
The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on the notification of the Steering Committee about the conversion of agricultural tube wells in Balochistan to solar energy were brought to the meeting’s attention. It was also disclosed to the meeting that a package of the recognition of officers who had demonstrated excellent performance was being put together.
Ministers Ahsan Iqbal of Planning, Ahad Khan Cheema of Economic Affairs, Awais Khan Leghari of Power, and other officials from the appropriate ministries and divisions were present at the meeting.
