ISLAMABAD: In response to the Election Commission of Pakistan accepting the PTI’s recent intra-party polls and returning the party’s electoral symbol, the Sunni Ittehad Council and the PTI would “merge,” according to PTI leader Asad Qaiser on Friday. The Supreme Court finally revoked the PTI’s election emblem in January following a back-and-forth of rulings by the ECP and the Peshawar High Court (PHC). Following the invalidation of its polls on December 2, the PTI held its intra-party elections on March 3 for the third time in the previous two years.
The Election Commission of Pakistan decided to reject the party’s distribution of reserved seats for women and minorities, and the Peshawar High Court affirmed their decision yesterday. The SIC, the new residence of PTI-backed victorious candidates, now has no reserved seats as a result of the dismissal of its case contesting the ECP ruling. According to the PTI, the Supreme Court will hear the case. Speaking on the Dawn News TV program “Doosra Rukh,” which airs at 5 p.m. today, Qaiser responded, “Yes, we will remain but we will also merge with it,” in response to a question about whether PTI-backed candidates who joined the SIC will stay in it.
In contrast to the present situation, in which its candidates are members of the SIC, he clarified that “both [parties] would merge” and “remain as PTI” if the party regained its electoral symbol following the recent intra-party polls. He indicated that his party was engaging legal experts on the question of whether it would be legal. When questioned about whether PTI-backed candidates made the right choice in joining the SIC, Qaiser said that there weren’t many options and the party had “many consultations” among itself. Speaking on the PHC ruling, the former NA speaker said that the party’s legal team “should challenge it in the Supreme Court.”
A phony government cannot comprehend this country’s economic position, he continued, referring to the coalition government. They are incapable of making judgments, nor do they even possess the authority to do so. They are going to flee on their own. God-willing, there would be public pressure to the level that the mandate thieves will leave this [government], Qaiser said in response to a question on whether other parties in the present coalition government, such as the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, will remain in the PML-N-PPP coalition.
He predicted “a change coming in four to five months” and declared, “A new government will be formed, which will rightly comprise of those given the public mandate.” In response to a question on whether new elections would be held, the PTI MNA stated that he hoped to “get justice” from the lawsuits that are pending in the election appellate tribunals and other courts. And we’ll reclaim our seats [from the judges],” he declared. Regarding the potential to introduce a vote of no confidence in the current government, Qaiser declared, “There will be our representation, for sure, as soon as we have the necessary number.” Imran Khan will serve as prime minister, God willing.
