ISLAMABAD: In response to claims that Form-45s were tampered with during last month’s general election, PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar has declared that his party will file a lawsuit in the Supreme Court. The party also wants the election results to be thoroughly and impartially audited. Speaking to reporters on Thursday outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Mr. Zafar declared, “We will challenge that matter (of Form-45s) before the Supreme Court.” A candidate’s total number of votes received at a polling place is recorded on Form-45s, which are allegedly published by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) with manipulated signatures.
The leader of the PTI further criticized the electoral body for denying reserved seats to other parties and giving them to the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), a group supported by independent MPs who joined the PTI. According to Mr. Zafar, the PTI was already the beneficiary of a ruling rendered by the Peshawar High Court, which applied to both provincial and national assemblies. The court has until March 13 to prevent the members of other parties that were granted the reserved seats of SIC from taking the oath of office in the National Assembly. According to Mr. Zafar, his party would also appeal the ECP’s ruling to deny the party special seats for minorities and women in other provincial high courts.
