ISLAMABAD: The leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf sent a letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday, and caretaker prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar expressed his disdain, calling it “highly irresponsible.” During a talk show on a private TV channel called SAMAA News, the prime minister stated that the letter was delivered during a period when the interim government had made substantial efforts to revive the economy, as evidenced by good trends in pertinent indicators and the achievement of certain financial targets.
The ongoing negotiations with the IMF were about a $6 billion accord, he added, adding that it was also contingent upon other multilateral agreements and crucial to the nation’s economic prospects. He stated that the PTI’s gesture of sending a letter to the IMF was outrageous and incredibly reckless and that there were proper platforms for the electoral issues. Though he insisted that the letter would not have any real impact, it would cost the PTI politically because it had a story to tell.
