RAWALPINDI: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), urged Punjab authorities to release party founder Imran Khan, who is detained in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. The Punjab authorities had banned all public meetings and visits with the former premier for two weeks, citing “security threats.” Advisor to KP Chief Minister on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif requested in a statement that Khan be turned over to the KP administration by the Punjab government if the latter was unable to secure the former prime minister’s imprisonment.
Khan was prohibited from hosting meetings within the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi for a period of two weeks last week. Adiala Jail has barred all types of visits, meetings, and interviews owing to security concerns, according to a statement from Punjab’s Home Department. It was made clear by the Punjab administration that the jail’s limitations were not meant to prevent PTI leaders from meeting with the party’s founder.
It wasn’t the intention of this action to deny Khan any facilities. Information Minister Azma Bukhari of Punjab has informed Shahzeb Khanzada of Geo News that “there is a serious threat alert, which is under investigation.” She claimed that new limitations had been put in place because, a few days prior, terrorists who had a map of the prison where Khan was being held had been apprehended by police enforcement. Conversely, the PTI leadership thought it was a calculated move to prevent them from seeing the party’s founder.
In response to the jail’s decision to forbid gatherings, Barrister Saif stated that all of the inmates were having trouble because of the limitations put in place for “security reasons.” The KP Chief Minister’s aide attacked the province government led by Maryam Nawaz and urged the Punjabi rulers to release the inmates rather than subjecting them to “pain and suffering” because of their “incompetence and fear of Khan”. “Maryam Nawaz is occupied with photo shoots rather than working in Punjab,” he remarked.
Saif continued, “A drama is being played in Punjab to hide incompetence.” In response to his criticism today, Punjab Information Minister Bukhari explained that, of all the prisoners housed in the provincial jails, Khan and her spouse Bushra Bibi are “safe.” “A person who robbed billions of rupees is getting the best security and food facilities in jail,” the speaker mocked Khan.
