WASHINGTON: Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Pakistan’s ambassador-designate to the US, took up his new role on Wednesday and declared that his main goals would be to fortify economic connections, improve people-to-people interactions, and solidify the US-Pakistan friendship. In his address to the mission officers, he also emphasized the value of the Pakistani community in the United States, calling them its most precious resource.
According to Ambassador Sheikh, the community was acting as a solid link in the relationship between Pakistan and the United States, and every attempt should be made to guarantee that the community receives improved services. The envoy emphasized the importance of pursuing goal-oriented diplomacy in this regard.
The Ambassador was met at the airport upon his arrival in Washington on Tuesday by representatives of the Pakistani government and the US State Department. It is important to note that Rizwan Saeed Sheikh has been named as Pakistan’s next ambassador to the United States (US) by the Foreign Office of Pakistan.
“The Government of Pakistan has decided to appoint Additional Foreign Secretary (Middle East and SIFC) Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh as Pakistan’s new ambassador to Washington DC,” stated Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the Foreign Office’s spokesperson.
Masood Khan, the current ambassador to the US, was on a three-month extension because his term was set to expire in March. On June 30, the three-month extension came to an end.
