ISLAMABAD: Sheikh Al-Hadith Professor Dr. Mufti Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Jalali, the Chairman of the Shariah Board Pakistan, declared that the minimum Sadaqah Fitr and Fidya for fasting this year were set at Rs 300 per person or nearly two kilograms of wheat flour. He stressed in a statement how important it is for wealthy people and philanthropists to give Sadaqah Fitr and Fidya according to their means; the amounts are Rs 600 for oats, Rs 2,400 for dates, and Rs 4,400 for raisins.
He also listed the Fidya rates, which are Rs 9,000 for wheat flour, Rs 18,000 for oats, Rs 72,000 for dates, and Rs 132,000 for raisins, for those who choose to fast for the full month of Ramadan. Fidya for fasting, according to Dr. Jalali, was meant for people who were terminally sick or incapable of fasting and had little chance of recovery. Fidya could not be a substitute for not fasting, he insisted, thus travelers and anyone temporarily unable to fast had to make up for missed fasts.
