PESHAWAR: At Administrator Auqaf’s office in Peshawar, the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee will meet today (Monday) to observe Ramadan’s moon sighting. Representatives from the central and zonal Ruet-i-Hilal committees will be present at the meeting, which will be chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, the chairman of the committee.
The Central Avenue Maulana Azad, the chairman of the Hilal Committee, emphasized that similar meetings of zonal committees nationwide will take place at their separate offices in Islamabad, Quetta, Lahore, and Karachi to determine the moon sighting of the holy month of Ramadan, 1445 AH. To encourage a national fasting day, Maulana Azad urged everyone to remain alert when observing the moon. Meanwhile, local media in Saudi Arabia said that the Ramazan moon was seen on Sunday night. Thus, on Monday, March 11, the kingdom entered the holy month.
Before this, Saudi Arabia has urged Muslims to spot the Ramadan crescent. According to Khaleej Times, the Supreme Court urged anyone who spots the crescent using binoculars or the unaided eye to report to the closest court and record their view. The UAE’s moon-sighting committee announced on Monday, March 11, that the crescent moon for the holy month has been spotted, marking the start of the holy month there as well.
Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, and several other nations have already declared March 12 to be the start of Ramadan. Since the crescent moon was not visible on Sunday night, Oman has also declared that it will observe the start of Ramadan on March 12.
