Uber decided to stop using its ride-hailing app in Pakistan, the company announced on Tuesday. An Uber representative informed Dawn.com, “We’ve decided to stop operating the Uber app in Pakistan.” “Our subsidiary brand Careem will persist in its operations, with the Careem application providing ride-hailing services throughout Pakistan and revenue prospects for drivers,” the representative stated. Uber paid $3.1 billion to acquire Careem, a competitor, in 2019. According to their statements, the two businesses would keep running their separate independent brands and regional services.
Uber’s operations in Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Islamabad were terminated in October 2022. It has made the decision to use the Careem app in the five cities and the Uber app in Lahore for operations. Uber announced today that it had taken the “difficult decision to no longer offer the Uber app services in Lahore as of April 30” in an email to subscribers in the city. The email said, “Ride-hailing services will continue to be offered through our subsidiary brand Careem. To ensure a seamless experience, you can sign up and request a trip on Careem.”
Careem Rides might get in touch with you to check in and sign up as a result of this. If you prefer not to have your information shared with Careem, please complete the form below by May 3, 2024. Along with a 50% discount on five Careem rides, users were also given the option to “reclaim your Uber Cash balance” if they currently had any money in their Uber Wallet. There will be communication from Uber on this in due course. A notification stating that Uber was no longer available in Lahore was displayed to users who attempted to access the app. In addition, they were informed that by using the code LHR50, they may receive 50% off of five trips on Careem.
