The region had a turbulent reaction from supporters following the defeat of an independent candidate in Shangla, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s NA-11 constituency. By setting a car on fire to express their displeasure with the election results, the disgruntled demonstrators exposed deep-seated tensions in the neighborhood.
Police used tear gas and aerial shooting to disperse the gathering, but as tensions ran high, skirmishes broke out between protestors and law officers, leading to injuries. Following 54,311 votes, independent candidate Syed Farin lagged behind the Pakistan Muslim League (N), which secured 59,863 votes in NA-11 Shangla, according to the provisional results.
