Namaz, or Salat, is one of the most important obligations of worship in Islam. Almost 2 billion Muslims bow in the direction of the holy city of Makkah five times a day: at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and evening.
Significance of Prayer in Islam
How will a person demonstrate his belief in Allah? And how will it affect his life? A Muslim’s faith is initially exhibited by the five daily routine prayers known as Salah. These prayers are so significant that they are the second Pillar of Islam after the Testimony of Faith.
A Muslim is commanded to stop whatever he is doing five times a day, whether it is work, play, or sleep, and perform ablution before addressing his Lord in prayer. The most important thing to a Muslim, regardless of his activities, is his relationship with Allah. The Prayers demonstrate and put into practice this relationship, as well as improve and strengthen it.
During the prayer, the Muslim faces the Kaaba in Makkah, a symbol of Allah’s Oneness and Muslim solidarity. He stands, bows, and prostrates to his Lord, praising Him, as well as pleading for His forgiveness and mercy. By doing so, the Muslim reminds himself of his place in the universe as a humble servant of Allah, as well as his complete reliance on his Creator, Cherisher, and Sustainer.

Direct Communication with Allah
The closest a person is to His Lord is when he is in prostration.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “When any one of you stands to pray, he is communicating with his Lord, so let him pay attention to how he speaks to Him.”
Success Lies in Prayer
Success lies in the prayer as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The first of his deeds for which a man will be called to account on the Day of Resurrection will be the prayers. If it is found to be perfect, he will be safe and successful. But if it is defective, he will be unfortunate and a loser.”
Shields Against Evil
Man was made weak, and it will be hard to avoid evil without the assistance of Allah.
Allah says: “Verily, prayer restrains (oneself) from shameful and unjust deeds” Quran 29:45
There is no question that the one who willingly stands in front of Allah will be distinguished from the one who does not. How can you keep doing the same sins when you’re in front of Allah five times a day?
Calms the Soul
Man is forgetful, especially in our fast-paced world. Prayer fulfils our spiritual urge to communicate with our Creator. This brings calm and contentment to the soul.
Allah says: “Without doubt, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.” Qur’an 13:28
Makes us Humble
Man is humbled and free of pride and arrogance when he realises Allah’s majesty and dependency on our Lord. During the prayer, the Muslim places his head, the highest part of his body and the wellspring of his intellect, on the ground and says, “How perfect is my Lord, The Most High.”
Humbleness is one of the traits connected with success by Allah.
Allah says: “Successful indeed are the believers, who are humble in their prayers.” Qur’an 23:1-2
Washes Away Sins
The Prayer washes away the sins as the Messenger gave a beautiful example when he said to his companions: “Consider if one of you had a river by his door in which he bathed five times a day. Would any filth remain on him?” They said, “No.” Then the Prophet replied: “Likewise, Allah wipes away sins with the five daily prayers.”
Removes our Problems
Man is surrounded by many hardships and difficulties. When we focus on improving our relationship with our Lord, He, the All-Powerful, will solve our worldly issues.
Allah says: “Seek help in patience and prayer.” Qur’an 2:153
