Introduction:
NA-221 Tharparkar 1 is a constituency for the National Assembly of Pakistan. Previously known as NA-214 it includes Dhali, Nagarparkar Tehsils and Chachro Tehsil (partly) including Chachro town.
District | Division | Province | Electorate |
---|---|---|---|
Tharparkar | Mirpur Khas | Sindh | 308,482 |
Popularity Reason: Tharparkar, historically part of the Great Indian Desert or Thar Desert, gets its name from the combination of “Thar” and “Parkar.” The term “Thar” originates from “Thul,” a general reference to the sand ridges in the region, while “Parkar” translates to “to cross over” or “the other side.” This nomenclature reflects the transition from the arid eastern desert to the irrigated western areas. Under British rule, the district was initially known as Thar and Parkar district, eventually evolving into the single term “Tharparkar.”.
The district showcases peaceful coexistence, marked by shared festivities and a low crime rate, defying poverty-related crime patterns. Tharparkar’s unique cultural blend fosters understanding and mutual respect among its diverse communities.
