Introduction:
NA-259 Kech-cum-Gwadar is a constituency for the National Assembly of Pakistan. It covers southern parts of the district of Kech and whole District Gwadar in the province of Balochistan. The constituency was created in 2022 out of NA-272 (Kech-cum-Gwadar) by taking out Kech District and making it a separate constituency.

Popularity Reason: Gwadar gained prominence, particularly after the Kargil War, when Pakistan identified the need for a military naval port, leading to the construction of the Karachi-Gwadar Road (Coastal Highway) for defense purposes. Historically, Gwadar was a modest settlement reliant on artisanal fishing. The strategic importance of its location was recognized in 1954 when the United States Geological Survey, at Pakistan’s request during Omani rule, identified it as a suitable site for a deep-water port. Despite this potential, it wasn’t until 2001 that successive Pakistani governments tapped into the area’s significance.

The consolidated results of the general election 2018 for NA-271 (Kech) included candidates from various political parties and independent contestants.
