GILGIT: After being shuttered for seven months, the popular tourist site, Babusar Road, was once again available for limited traffic on Monday. The route was closed as a result of heavy snowfall in the area. Babusar road was reopened for minimal traffic on Monday, according to Diamer Deputy Commissioner Fayyaz Ahmed, after the snow was removed from Babusar summit and surrounding regions. He stated that until Eidul Azha, vehicles from the KP and GB sides are permitted to travel on Babusar Road between the hours of 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. The deputy commissioner stated that traffic movement is only permitted during the day due to the possibility of significant snowmelt during the day and freezing at night. He went on to say that following Eidul Azha, new road travel hours will be issued.
Commutators are encouraged to adhere carefully to the Met Department’s travel advisory. As per the caution, travelers and visitors are asked to schedule their excursions on Babusar Road after reviewing the advisories and alerts issued by the Met department. Using the Babusar Road takes seven hours to get from Diamer to Mansehra; using the Karakoram Highway takes fourteen hours.
