KARACHI: PTI leader Arif Alvi made yet another appeal to the ruling class of the beleaguered party on Tuesday, saying that Imran Khan is open to communication, but only with those “who could offer something.” He also stated that talking with people who gained power through “Form 47s” would be pointless. During a brief conversation with reporters at a PTI protest camp outside the Karachi Press Club, the former president played down comparisons between the current political climate and the events leading up to Dhaka’s fall, stating that “it’s never about the whole institution but a few individuals.”
However, he also emphasized the urgency of acting swiftly, stating that the current state of affairs was “pushing everyone towards a dead-end” and that this may lead someone to make a decision that could ignite a powder keg. Despite his criticism of the military’s involvement in politics, he acknowledged that it was the only stakeholder with whom real communication was feasible. In response to a query, he stated, “We never invited the military to intervene in politics.” However, Imran Khan desires to speak with those in positions of authority. Do you think there is anything those who have risen to power using Form 47s have to offer? It would be useless to hold negotiations with them.
“Those who choose to band together and fight for the preservation and supremacy of the Constitution ought to do so. However, Dr. Alvi stated that conversations should only be had with people with something to offer and can provide a credible case. He responded that all of this was being done in an attempt “to fix the same broken political system” when questioned if such an exercise would further weaken the “broken political system”. He had earlier added, “Imran Khan has been calling for talks because he believes that dialogue should be held,” before a gathering of party workers were demonstrating. However, we find these recommendations offensive.
It’s your decision if your ego and rage prevent you from talking. Imran Khan always advocated for communication and gave up his ego. But it would put everyone in even more of a dead end if these discussions weren’t held. Dr. Alvi clarified the message that Imran Khan was trying to get over in his recent post on social media site X regarding Dhaka’s collapse. He said, “Imran Khan has just highlighted things and talked about individuals and not institutions.” He highlighted the incident in 1971 as an example of how we, as a country, could draw lessons from that period of our past, regardless of the harm done by General Yahya.
He said that Imran Khan was one of the most devoted leaders in history, having “kept national secrets” and “covered mistakes” despite facing charges as serious as treason. He claimed that succeeding governments had made every effort to hide the “mistakes” of the past.n”Citizens always hide the country’s mistakes,” he declared. “To prevent the errors made from being revealed, civilian prime minister [Zulfikar Ali] Bhutto prevented the release of the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report. Are you now labeling a fellow prime minister as a traitor? Bringing a treasonous case over the cipher [problem]? “Citizens bear the responsibility for any mistakes done. The individual who has concealed so many national secrets is Imran Khan. However, he is being investigated for treason,” the former president lamented.
1971 parallel ‘a political one’: Additionally, he cautioned that if political unrest persisted, the economy would never stabilize and that investors would choose to make their money elsewhere. He added that only the backing of the general public could bring about peace on both the political and economic fronts. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, a PTI leader and MNA, dissociated himself from Imran Khan’s contentious social media post regarding the 1971 civil war and the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report. He stated that the post was intended for a “political context” rather than the military, as Dawn.com reported.
Imran’s account, which is run by his social media team because he is a prisoner at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, posted a video on social media platform X on May 26 along with a quote that was purportedly written by him: “Every Pakistani should read the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report and get to know who was the true traitor, General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.” Barrister Gohar stated in an interview with a digital news site that was published on Tuesday that “the context and comparison that we drew with 1971 was in a political context and not otherwise — nothing about the army.”
Barrister Gohar said, “It was just our [meaning about the] political context,” comparing the PTI’s claims regarding the present election outcome and administration to the 1971 alteration of a party’s mandate and majority. Imran “does not approve every video or context,” he claimed, and he was incarcerated.
