Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered officials to move quickly to contain the fire, and efforts are underway to put it out at the Noorpur range of Islamabad’s Margalla Hills. This event comes after two similar fires in the same range yesterday that were extinguished by firefighters with the aid of aircraft after seven hours. According to Kamran Aslam, a spokesman for the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the fire started at Trail-3 in the Saidpur range and was put out at this point. However, it continued towards Trail-5 in the Noorpur range. He said that crews from the wildlife department and the CDA were working hard to put out the fire near Trail-5.
After noticing the fire, Prime Minister Shehbaz instructed the appropriate authorities to mobilize right once and launch containment efforts, according to a report on PTV, the state broadcaster. It is imperative to contain the fire before it gets out of control. It needs to be made sure that no human life is in danger,” he was cited as adding. More teams were expected, according to Aslam, who stated that over 65 firemen were working to contain the fire. Aslam continued, “On the orders of CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the environment director general was supervising the operation himself.” Additionally, he mentioned that the pertinent assistant commissioner was also present at the location.
Aslam, who is also the deputy director of the CDA, emphasized that the scorching temperature and wind gusts had made it difficult to contain the fire. He continued by saying that every resource was being used for the operation. The Margalla Hills National Park, which covers 12,605 hectares, experiences numerous fires each year that harm the woods and pollute the air. Around 1:00 PM on Monday, two significant fires started in the Saidpur range in two separate places: Chiran Di Gali and the Saidpur region. More than 200 firemen participated in the extinguishing efforts, according to Environment Director Asif Majeed, who also stated that both incidents were seasonal. The operation was carried out at the National Disaster Management Authority’s request and involved local firefighters who were recruited by the CDA for the fire season, three defense authority helicopters, and the Prime Minister’s Office. Pitches of water were raised from Rawal Dam.
